When You Believe

Above & Beyond and Victoria Horn release ‘When You Believe’, the final single from their latest studio dance album, ‘Bigger Than All Of Us’.

Juxtaposing uplifting lyrics against a darker, Balearic chord progression, ‘When You Believe’ touts the universal (yet quite uniquely put) mantra: “When you believe in love, you believe in life. And your life will love you back”.

‘When You Believe’ sees Above & Beyond work with singer-songwriter Victoria Horn for the second time, having previously collaborated on fan-favourite hit ‘Counting Down The Days’ (from the trio’s 2015 album ‘We Are All We Need’), which she co-wrote.

"It all started with these chords I made, then Victoria added the melody and lyrics," says Jono Grant from Above & Beyond.

"It’s got a real ‘90s feel to it", he continues. "When our A&R heard the opening bassline, he said it reminded him of Haddaway, which definitely speaks to the ‘90s influence behind it."

"The other interesting thing about this track," says Jono, "is that the chorus has an unusual amount of bars for a dance music track. When Victoria came in with this chorus, it sounded so unique, but I couldn’t put my finger on it until I realised it had an ‘off’ number of bars. That’s when I knew we had something really good here."

British-based Victoria Horn has a storied, decades-long history in the entertainment industry. Starting her career as a professional session singer for major TV adverts across the UK and US, Victoria has dabbled in almost every aspect of musical performance: from singing pre-cast recordings for many West End musicals, to providing backing vocals on band tours, to signing with Geffen Records in the US with the group she formed with Andy Taylor from Duran Duran.

Over the past two decades, she’s become a mainstay writer and vocalist in the popular dance music scene, collaborating with Armin van Buuren, Carl Cox, The Blessed Madonna, Paul Oakenfold, Pete Tong, and Ferry Corsten, to name a few.

Following the release of their fifth dance studio album ‘Bigger Than All Of Us’, Above & Beyond embarked on a 175,000-ticket global album tour, inspiring the need for a more heavy-hitting club update of ‘When You Believe’ to include in their live sets. Above & Beyond’s Club Mix version of ‘When You Believe’ has since been played out live to thousands of fan across North American amphitheaters, European clubs, and festival stages worldwide.

The Club mix was recently featured in mixed form on Above & Beyond’s ‘Anjunabeats Volume 17’ compilation, which was released on 28 May.
